Energy & Heating Fuel Update

With Fall approaching fast, many of us who use liquid fuel for home heating are checking our fuel reserves. With the ever-volatile state of fuel prices, liquid fuel enables you to gamble on whether the cost will skyrocket or plummet before the heating season arrives. Next to football, this ‘fuel gamble’ continues to be my favorite Fall game.

We’re currently sitting on just above 1/4 tank (apx. 77 gallons) of delicious, Salem-brewed B99 bio-diesel left over from our last fill-up, more than 15 months ago. We certainly stretched that over-priced tank as far as we could, but now may be the best time to re-fill as prices are lower than they were in January of this year. In fact, for the first time since I can remember, the disparity between B99 and #2 diesel (straight petroleum) is less than $.50/gallon; as of today, the price for B99 is exactly $.39 $.49 cents more per gallon that traditional #2 diesel. If you’re in need of a locally-brewed, waste-oil-sourced heating fuel refill, now is the time for action!

Listed here are today’s cash-sale prices for home heating fuel delivered from our friends at Star Oil in Portland (Star is the distributor for Oregon-sourced and refined bio-diesel from Sequential Biofuels):

#2 Diesel (good-ole fashioned petroleum heating oil)
100 gallons: $2.52
200 gallons: $2.32

January 2009 price for 100 gallons: $1.92/gallon
January 2009 price for 200 gallons: $1.72/gallon

B20 Bio-diesel (20% bio-diesel, made almost exclusively from waste veggie oil collected in Oregon / 80% petro-diesel)
100 gallons: $2.80
200 gallons: $2.50

January 2009 price for 100 gallons: $2.22/gallon
January 2009 price for 200 gallons: $1.92/gallon

B99 Bio-diesel (99.9% bio-diesel, made almost exclusively from waste veggie oil collected in Oregon)
100 gallons: $2.94
200 gallons: $2.71 $2.81

January 2009 price for 100 gallons: $3.26/gallon
January 2009 price for 200 gallons: $3.03/gallon

If you have a Chinook Book, you have access to a coupon good for a price reduction of 10 cents per gallon on delivered fuel (including any of the above-listed fuels). It’s also worth noting that if you have a large storage tank, Star will offer a further per-gallon discount on fuel deliveries of 400 gallons or more.
