Carrier Pigeon Diary 2

I commuted into the office today on Big Beef. I’m really getting used to the Sturmey hub and enjoying its behavior quite a lot. I finally got the seat and stem heights adjusted to a level that makes riding quite a pleasure. The extreme upright position is fantastic for both comfort as well as mustering extra torque when you need it. The position is very much like sitting on a tall stool, so your cadence is much more like running. It’s a solid feel and makes riding a pleasure.

I also discovered the very handy on-hub shift alignment adjuster, easily accessible by detaching the small back panel on the enclosed chain-case. It’s so handy! One small screw holds this cover in place, enabling direct access to the well-marked 4th-gear alignment marker. Simply adjust the cable tensioner (on the shifter or by the hub) to get the small yellow arrow to align with the 4th gear set mark. All you do is place the hub into 4th gear and then adjust the tension fore or aft until the arrow aligns in the middle of the set mark. Then run through the gears (1 through 8) back and forth and see if the set mark is maintained. Reset accordingly until you hit the mark.

I’m really enjoying this bike!
